Why solar power for your home is worth it!

We love solar energy, it's clean, renewable, and in a bright country like Australia it makes sense! We’ve teamed up with Solahart, Australia’s solar pioneers, to show you all the benefits of going solar.

We all know that energy consumption has a huge and serious effect on the environment. Burning fossil fuels to produce the energy we use every day emits harmful greenhouse gasses that contribute to climate change.

Australian household and business budgets have been feeling the strain of soaring electricity prices too, which have already increased by around 50% over the past five years and gas is predicted to rise considerably.

Why should I switch to solar?

Switching to solar is one of the best options to significantly reduce your energy use (and energy bills) and also lower your carbon footprint in the process. You'll reduce your impact on climate change and make a positive step for future generations.

There are two main solar technologies which can help reduce your energy bills, solar water heating and solar power (PV). When used together they have the biggest impact on your energy use.

Did you know electric water heating accounts for around 25% of the average home's carbon footprint?

Electric water heating is one of the biggest individual contributors to household greenhouse gas emissions, so it's a great place to start with solar energy!

For example, with a Solahart solar hot water heater you could save up to 50% to 90%* of your water heating energy consumption, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 1.9 to 3.6 tonnes per annum, which is the equivalent of taking a 4 cylinder car off the road. Wow! Now that's powerful.

How long does it take to pay for itself?

This is one of the most common questions around investing in solar energy for your home. Financial payback will vary depending on your circumstances, but with the available incentives plus the ongoing energy savings you can begin to recoup your additional investment straight away when you remain connected to the same fuel tariff. After you recover your initial investment, the savings are yours to spend on yourself and your family, year after year.

Can you go off-the-grid with solar?

Thanks to new developments in home energy storage it is becoming easier in Australia and other parts of the world to reduce your reliance on power from the grid significantly and even head towards complete self-sufficiency.

In 2016, Solahart joined the home battery revolution with Tesla Powerwall, the world's leading home battery.

The Tesla Powerwall is a lithium ion home battery that charges using electricity generated from solar panels. You can combine the Tesla Powerwall with your solar power system to allow you to maximise the utilisation of your solar power by storing excess electricity produced during the day for use at any time. You'll reduce your reliance on power from the grid and lower your power bills even more.
