[Images] This is why we can't put our diverse continent and Australian biodiversity at risk

Australia is a continent worth being proud of.

Since it is Keep Australia Beautiful Week, we're cheers-ing to keeping this country beautiful – and not just for the week. For good.

Our Southern home is a diverse mass of land comprised mostly of desert. While 'mostly desert' doesn't sound like the most beautiful thing, Australia has a variety of natural aesthetic that extends far beyond its barren plains.

Our country is home to alpine heaths, tropical rainforests, mountain ranges, coastal grasslands and some of the most unique flora and fauna on Earth.

Australian land houses rare evergreens, eucalyptus trees, wattles, bottlebrushes, and the cutest darn animals ever.

We are proud to be from such a topographically diverse continent, but Australian biodiversity is at risk.

Climate Change poses one of the biggest threats to Australia's beauty.

With an onset of hotter weather, bushfires and storms, Australia is at serious risk of being battered by a planet heating up too quickly.

This country is far too beautiful to be destroyed by something that humans can prevent.

Just look.

"Great Southern Land, in the sleeping sun you walk alone with the ghost of time they burned you black, black against the ground And they make it work with rocks and sand"
- ICEHOUSE, Great Southern Land, songwriter Iva Davies
"I'm the tree you are me with the land and the sea we are one life not three in the essence of life we are one."
- KEVIN GILBERT, Unity, Black from the Edge
"We cannot own the land. We are but the custodians of the land. "
- OODGEROO OF THE TRIBE NOONUCCAL (Kath Walker)

We are custodians of the land. Of Australia and of the planet. Kath Walker has said it, the Pope has said it, celebrities have said it.

Now we're saying it.

Let's make certain climate change doesn't effect the beauty of Australia any more than it already has.
