[WATCH] Pope Francis in The Encyclical: the epic battle against the climate crisis

This morning, Pope Francis’ encyclical was leaked, and it confirms our thoughts on the Pope’s stance on climate change – that all humans must take action to prevent climate change now.

Unlike other encyclicals (which are directed only at those within the Catholic Church), the Pope has directed this encyclical at everyone regardless of religion,

"Faced with the global deterioration of the environment, I want to address every person who inhabits this planet… I especially propose to enter into discussion with everyone regarding our common home."
- Pope Francis

The encyclical will be officially released this Thursday. The word 'encyclical' comes from the Greek word for "circle," indicating that it is to be "passed on" or circulated among different people. It could have the potential to shift the conversation on climate change worldwide!

Until then, check out this must-see Hollywood-style trailer posted by non-profit Observatório do Clima, depicting Pope Francis in 'The Encyclical: the epic battle against the climate crisis.'

The [real] Pope is urging us to take responsibility and adjust our lifestyles in order to generate a solution to the climate crisis,

"Humanity is called to take note of the need for changes in lifestyle and changes in methods of production and consumption to combat this warming, or at least the human causes that produce and accentuate it," he wrote.
- Pope Francis

How can we do this?

Pope Francis says that humans can combat climate change by implementing policies to reduce carbon emissions 'by replacing fossil fuels and developing sources of renewable energy.'

He emphasises this change as 'urgent and compelling' - the sooner we can start to live low carbon lifestyles the easier it will be for the future.

But you don't need to be in a position of high power to make a real difference - There are so many simple ways to reduce how much energy you use within your daily life.
