Nothing that can be recycled should be going into landfill. By recycling, reusing and upcycling we can save an estimated 17kg per month (200kg per year) of C02 a month. Recycle everything you can. Anything made from metal, wood, most plastics, paper and cardboard, and electronic e-waste are all likely to have a recycling option.
We have searched the web for easy DIY’s and upcycling projects to save you time and energy, that you can invest into you new project. Check out our 3 favourite projects for this week!
1. Turn an old light bulb into a tiny terrarium
Terrariums are all the rage right now, but don't run out and buy one. The blog Hipster Home has put together a very easy, step by step tutorial on how to turn an old, used-up light bulb into a teeny terrarium. Also makes an excellent gift idea! Click here to see more.
2. Turn an old lotion bottle into a holder for a charging cell phone
This sweet little charger is a brilliant idea for upcycling old lotion bottles, old drink bottles - basically any plastic bottles you might still have laying around (because in 2014 we're committing to less/no plastic, remember?). Anyway, if you do still have any laying around then don't just throw them away! Upcycle them into a sweet little hanger for your wall with this super easy tutorial from We Make it - Love it.
3. How to weave a flat bottom purse using old wrappers and magazines.
Our final upcycling project for this week is an easy to follow instructional video on how to weave yourself a gorgeous purse out of materials that might otherwise have been thrown away - think chocolate wrappers, chip packets, magazine pages. Anything at all! Using combinations of different materials work beautifully together.
