1MW Canberra Delegation February 2025
Dates: 11-13th February 2025
Delegation: 23 women from across the country, from a variety of metro, regional and rural areas and a variety of living circumstances (homeowners, renters, living in social housing for example)
Meetings: 26 meetings with politicians (and their advisors) from all sides of politics
Purpose: Engaging federal politicians from across the political spectrum to ask for government support for 1 million homes to electrify or take steps to electrify within the next term of government. Through this process we have been simultaneously building important political relationships for advocacy while empowering our delegation of women to be community leaders and continue to engage their local MPs on state and federal levels.
We discussed home electrification as a real solution for cost of living pressures and for the climate. We talked about:
- Affordable energy now
- Battery storage and solar rollout for households
- Support for renters and those living in social housing
- Our policy ask - support for 1 Million Households to be electrified or take steps to electrify over the next term of government - by 2028.
And all of this culminated in a vibrant community event at Bentspoke Brewery with 100 1MW community members talking about household electrification with a panel of experts.
Women are the key financial decision-makers in most Australian households so in all our work we aim to embolden women, giving them the confidence to speak up about household electrification and why we need affordable energy now.
