Edible beauty essentials

Did you know that many items in your kitchen can also be used as beauty products? Here are just a few!

There are so many excess products in our lives, cluttering up our bathroom cabinets & ultimately ending up in landfill. De-clutter your life; multi-purpose your products!

  • Lemon Juice

The holy grail of multipurpose products! Lemons are high in vitamin C and great for both internal and external health and beauty. You can easily use lemon juice as a skin toner. Lemon juice is antibacterial so can help with acne and fade blackheads.

  • Sugar

You can easily use sugar as an exfoliant when mixed with an oil base. It also works great as a lip smoother! Mix together equal parts sugar, olive oil - maybe a few drops of essential oil for scent, up to you! I use a few drops of Lavender in mine and I love it!

  • Oats

Oatmeal has a history of being used to soothe irritated skin and it's very easy to make a skin mask with. Start by grinding 1/4 cup of uncooked oats until fine, then add in 1 1/2 tablespoons plain yogurt and 2 teaspoons honey. Easy!

  • Olive Oil

Olive oil is the top consumed edible oil and also offers endless beauty befits, internally and externally! Try using olive oil straight up as a make-up remover and hair treatment.

  • Strawberries

This one surprised me! Did you know they are actually a natural teeth whitener?!

You need 1 strawberry and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda.

Crush the strawberry into pulp and mix with baking soda, spread onto your teeth with an old, soft toothbrush and leave for 5 minutes. Rinse off and enjoy your new pearly whites!

  • Green Tea

Whenever I finish a cup of herbal tea I always rub the used bag on my face. Why? Because I'm a but... but also it makes an excellent toner! You can also used a cup of green tea as a wonderful hair rinse.
