The easiest and least messy way to remove labels from glass jars and bottles...
I'm a massive hoarder of glass jars.
My partner often asks why I keep them ALL, and I always reassure him that I will find some use for them, even if our cupboards are starting to overfill. Whether it be filing them with homemade foodstuffs, beauty products, or for organisational purposes around the home, painting them, or even using them as plant pots for small succulents or herbs.
So, naturally, you can imagine I've had to remove the sticky labels from a LOT of glass and bottles and jars.
It always left me frustrated, that even after soaking the glass in hot water to soften the label, it usually won't come off without leaving behind a sticky residue. This sticky residue is annoying to touch, and secondly it collects dust making your jars always look a little dirty.
There are a heap of methods out there for solving this problem, and I have tried a few, but this is absolutely my favourite.
It's so easy, it's not messy, and completely natural with no chemicals that will harm you or the environment.
So what is the key ingredient? Olive oil!
Here's how you do it...
1. Soak your jars in hot water to soften the labels.
2. Remove the labels the best you can, if any stubborn bits remain, don't worry too much, the oil will take care of them later.
3. Grab your olive oil. You can also use other oils, most types will work, but olive or canola oil are good choices.
4. Pour or spray a little oil on paper towel or a cleaning rag and rub at the remaining residue from the label.
5. Keep rubbing until all residue is gone. This should only take a minute or two.
6. Wash your jar afterward to get the oil off.
That's it!
