[UPDATE] Dutch citizens won lawsuit against their government and empowered the world!

This is the greatest thing I have ever heard! This is not an overstatement, people power is the best commodity we have and just look how the Dutch people are using it!

Earlier this year 886 Dutch citizens banded together to sue their government for not acting faster on climate change.

Well today a judge in Hague has ruled the Dutch government's stance on climate change illegal, and a plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25% within five years must happen.

"The court orders the state to reduce the overall volume of greenhouse gas emissions in such a way that they are at least 25 per cent less in 2020 compared to 1990," judge Hans Hofhuis said.

This proves we don't have to wait for governments and politicians to get their act together. WE as citizens of society can make a difference... we have the power!

Marjan Minnesma, who heads environmental rights group Urgenda which brought the case states,

"The parties agree that the severity and magnitude of climate change make it necessary to take measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,"
- the court said in its ruling.

"The state must do more to reverse the imminent danger caused by climate change, given also its duty to protect and improve the environment."

This will hopefully inspire people around the world to do the same thing and proves that when people rise up against their government's inaction, real change can happen.

Lack of action on climate change is the biggest injustice, as affects the entire planet and every living thing on this earth.

Already in Belgium 8000 citizens are joining together in a similar court case, and another seems to be spurring in Norway.

Hopefully this kind of climate activism is going to spread like wildfire...
