Meet Some Ambassadors

Katie Noonan - Entertainer

Katie Noonan

1 million women

Since becoming a mother I have thought more and more about wanting to help create a beautiful safe world for my precious children. The only way to do this is to make a change in your own world.

Switch to solar. Install rainwater tanks. Say no to plastic bags. Walk more. Use public transport more. Recycle and reuse. Take a mug to your cafe. Car pool. Switch your car to gas/electric. Plant trees. Plant vegies. Eat less meat. Carbon offset your travel. Switch to green energy. Join 1 Million Women! Do whatever you can to help keep this beautiful planet beautiful.

I am passionate about making a change in my world and I urge you to do the same in yours - in the words of our great aussie troubador Kev Carmody - from little things big things grow.

with love,
Katie Noonan

The Honourable Anna Bligh MP - Premier of Queensland

The Honourable Anna Bligh MP

Climate change presents a real challenge to our way of life and that of future generations. Protecting our lifestyle and environment is something I am passionate about and am committed to leading by example.

It is easy to be daunted by the concept of reducing our carbon emissions but by encouraging small actions, one million women can make a world of difference.

Women know how to work in a collective and appreciate and use our different skills to work toward an objective – and have a lot of fun and nurturing along the way!

I’m personally dedicated to reducing my carbon footprint and encouraging those around me to think more seriously about their own. What makes the 1 Million Women initiative so special is that it will harness the power and the passion of Australian women. United we will be an unstoppable force. In particular it’s my hope that the young, informed and motivated women who read CLEO will embrace this campaign and really make a difference.

Maeve O'Meara - Award-winning food and cooking author, journalist, broadcaster, television producer and presenter

Maeve O'Meara

When graduating from primary school, my then 12 year old son's ambition was to "make the world a better place and have fun along the way". I reckon that's enough reason to dive in and see what we can do to leave the planet in good shape - and rather than seeing the journey in a negative light - what one gives up - its actually incredibly positive. In a food sense we need to be much more aware of what we eat, where it comes from and how to look after our resources.

Anna Whitlam - CEO, Market U/ Director & Partner, WDScott

Anna Whitlam

It is my pleasure to participate as an Ambassador in a campaign where making a difference is easily achievable! In a world where we expect one third more people on our earth than there is now, we can no longer believe we are entitled to have what we want or even need. Our culture of entitlement may be OK for a small population on a small planet but if we do not take personal responsibility for the impacts our current "entitled" lifestyle is having on our future generations then history will regard our generation as the worst despoilers. Together one million women taking personal responsibility is a superb example of how we can go beyond our own backyard, come together and make sure that we can create a massive wave of change.

Australian women are already taking on this extraordinary challenge – join us!

Women have lead the way in the great social changes. It is time for us to rally again to save our community and protect our environment. Cities will be unlivable unless we reduce our carbon footprint now on a household by household basis.

Each of us can make a difference and if we join with other women we can make an even bigger difference! My personal challenge is to reduce my own footprint and encourage women in northern NSW and women in universities and organisations throughout Australia to reduce theirs too!’

Sarah Oakes - Editor-in-Chief of CLEO magazine

Sarah Oakes

I’m personally dedicated to reducing my carbon footprint and encouraging those around me to think more seriously about their own. Leanne Preston - CEO Wild Child WA Pty Ltd

I believe we all have a responsibility to care for our children and the environment. I have always been concerned with the unnecessary use of dangerous chemicals in our world. I believe that by making a very large number of small changes we can significantly reduce environmental damage, my contribution to this philosophy has been the creation of my own company Wild Child which produces products as close to nature as we can make them. As a natural extension to my working life this campaign provides a great platform to effectively communicate and participate in helping to reduce carbon emissions.
