Lola Berry has become a household name around Australia. A leading Australian Nutritionist and TV personality, plus passionate earth and sustainable living advocate, Lola inspires thousands around the nation to live better everyday. Today she talks with 1 Million Women, sharing her thoughts on how easy it can be to live sustainably.

Sustainability ... I think it's an important one, but I know when I talk to people about it they say, "I'm just one person, how can I bring about change?"

That's where it's really important to know that you have so much more power than you think. You get to decide how you live on this earth, and that in itself is hugely empowering.

Think about it, every single day you get to choose how you leave your mark. That's up to you, no one else.

Little things add up, so think about the little things you can do. Make it easy for yourself.

These are some of my simple, earth friendly living tips.

Choose to shop at your local farmers markets: it's not only reducing your carbon footprint, because the

produce is coming from somewhere close to you, but it will be much fresher (often harvested only the day before the markets) therefore contain more nutrients and health benefits. You're also helping to support your local economy.... Plus you can ask questions! Producers are often so passionate and have the best cooking tricks.

Vote with your dollars: choose to buy things that are produced closest to you. That way you are helping to increase the demand for that product over something that's been shipped in from the other side of the world.

Ditch the plastic bags: Loads of marine life die because of littered plastic bags getting into our water ways. Plus, they take well over 20 years to break down... some people say up to 1,000 years!

Ban the bottle: As a society we go through so much bottled water and all these plastic bottles take immense amounts of energy and resources to create. I've got a really sturdy glass bottle that I just refill. If you're worried about it breaking (I'll admit sometimes they do), there are so many brilliant metal ones out there.

Try little things, like a romantic candle lit dinner with the lights turned off. These are just simple things that can make a big difference.

Plant some herbs and baby trees (where you know they can thrive) with the kiddlets one weekend: There's this awesome quote I found and it really resonates with this tip. It's a Greek Proverb and goes,  "A society grows when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in."

I think at the end of the day, we really need to respect mother nature. She's pretty amazing, so let's give her a helping hand. Together we have the power to make some pretty amazing changes!
