Get The Most Out Of Your Clothes With These ‘Fashion Hacks’

FACT: By keeping your clothes in good condition, or by repairing or recycling them, you can cut pollution by stopping clothing waste from ending up in landfills, and you will save money at the same time.

You can easily fix small issues your clothing items may have by using these ‘fashion hacks’. By making small repairs, adjustments or following tips to keep your clothes in prime condition, you can make the life of your clothes longer and also avoid them sitting unworn in your cupboard and eventually being thrown out and ending up in landfill. The cost of taking care of your clothes is much cheaper than simply buying something new. The fashion industry in general has a very heavy carbon footprint so whenever you can avoid buying something new, not only are you saving money but cutting pollution too!

Here are our favourite fashion hacks this week…

1. Don't want your favorite pair of dark jeans to fade? To prevent this from happening add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to your wash! White vinegar is cheap and sold at every supermarket and the chances are you already have it sitting in your kitchen.

2. Alternatively, don't wash them at all! If your jeans start to smell, just chuck them into a zip-lock bag and put them in the freezer overnight. Once they thaw, they’ll feel clean and will retain their shape and colour.

3. We've all gotten red wine stains on our favorite clothes. Well, did you know white wine can take the red wine stain right out? If you have red wine stains anywhere, just pour some white wine on it, let it soak in, then rub it away! It will magically disappear before your eyes.

4. Use ice to remove chewing gum from clothes. It really works!

5. For any lipstick smudges on your clothes, saturate the area with hairspray, wait 10 minutes, and then dab with a damp cloth.

6. When ironing a button up shirt, always flip it inside-out first to iron over the button side easily, and not loosen the buttons.

Hot Tip: Tossing your shoes on the floor of your cupboard is a terrible way to care for them, and keep them organised. If you've got open space under your bed, find a large, flat storage container that you can fill with your shoes and slide in and out when you need them. Or, if you've got room, an over-the-door shoe rack keeps things tidy too.
