I have just returned from a week in stunning Tasmania, where my husband and I celebrated our 25 th wedding anniversary by doing the amazingly beautiful Bay of Fires Walk.
While we were there we had lunch with my mentor and friend, Bob Brown.
I met Bob 9 years ago. I was needing advice about Tasmanian forests and environmental conditions in Australia at that time, as I had inherited some money and was about to fund some environmental projects. I decided that the person to talk to was Bob. He graciously gave me a few hours of his time which was the most inspiring few hours of my life. We have been friends since and I can honestly say my life’s direction, my actions and beliefs have been fundamentally changed because of his influence.
He has the most wonderful sense of humor with an unwavering devotion to our natural world and especially the Australian Bush. I have never heard him denigrate anyone in all our conversations which as we can all imagine he would have plenty of opportunity to condemn those that attack him. He is just such a kind and humble man and I am so grateful that he is an Australian.
Bob believes that we all need to reconnect with our natural world and to not only appreciate just what this amazing planet gives us, our food, our water, our shelter and life itself but for those of us who have more than we need, as individuals we must STOP the greed and the plunder of nature for our own material wealth.
Because, simply put, when you love something you think twice before you hurt it.
He speaks straight from his heart about the need for us all to love and respect this planet that sustains us.
He is such an inspiring human. Whenever I spend time with him, he not only restores my faith in humanity but he gives me the inspiration to keep doing what I am doing and more.
So go on, get out and enjoy your planet! Go for a walk, a swim, a holiday and realize just how bloody lucky we all are. Remember what Bob is saying to us all- whatever you do in life, do it with love in your hearts and respect for this amazing planet.
I am writing this to whoever chooses to read it and asking you to please join 1 Million Women and open your hearts, get out there and spread Bob’s message to your friends, family, neighbours and strangers. We all need to LOVE PLANET EARTH and do our absolute best to not contribute to destroying it.
At 1 Million Women we show you how.
Cheers,
Tara
